It Rained On The Beaver Farmers' Market!

Customers Came Out And Dodged The Rain!
Market attendance was down a bit - always is when folks look out in the morning and actually see rain - but the faithful were there!  You can see them lined up at the Jodikinos Farm tent ...
LFLF came home with beets, sweet corn, cucumbers, yellow summer squash, cookies & Focaccia bread.
It wasn't a great time to have the camera out constantly, but here are some veggie close-ups of what's in season:

More At The Somerset County Farmers' Market!

Customers In Line At The Somerset County Farmers' Market
Hopefully, this will inspire everyone to go out this weekend and visit one of the farmers' markets in your area!  As promised, we have more pictures from the SCFM last Saturday.   The cut flowers were gorgeous and at this vendor, they are sold as bunches by the pint or quart.
Cut Flower Bunches By The Pint Or By The Quart!
Here's a reason to get to the market early ... They still had chicken, but it looks like the eggs were sold out an hour & a half after start of market.  Love the sign!

Oak Bottom Shiitake was there with their Shiitake mushrooms ...

LFLF Goes To Somerset!

A Beautiful Saturday Under The Shelters At The Somerset County Farmers' Market!
LFLF was making a trip to Bedford County on Saturday and I took the opportunity to stop in and visit old friends!  After spending half an hour in construction traffic in Pittsburgh - grrrrr - we only had about 20 minutes to dash through the market.
The Soap & Sundries Closet of Adams Run Garden From Bedford, PA
Remember, based on elevation, Somerset County is about 2 weeks behind the Pittsburgh area in addition to everything being about 2 weeks behind after the long, cold winter.  The farmers told me that this was their 1st really good market day of the season.  They finally felt like they had enough veggies & fruit to put some choices out on their tables.  Wish I'd had more time to chat ... I know some are using season extending high tunnels & greenhouses ...
Smiling Faces At Grandma's Produce!
Grandma's Produce is one of the founding members of the SCFM - also, check out the t-shirts from the market.  We saw them in bright gold and in gray ... need to get one of those!
Nice Selection of Maple Products
We'll finish our visit with another post ... even with sprinting through the market, LFLF managed to get more pics!  Until then ....  :)

New Vendor At Beaver Farmers' Market

Hawk's Hill Farm At Beaver Farmers' Market
LFLF missed several weeks at the Beaver Farmers' Market and when we arrived today, we were happy to see a new local vendor.  Hawk's Hill Farm from Georgetown, PA had a great display of veggies and greens ... and they told me that the artwork was by their daughters.  Very nice!

We walked away with a quart of haricot vert (French for green beans), the thin fillet green beans.  Witness the debate here about "just what is" a haricot vert ?!?
The selection of produce is really starting to pick up now.  We also got summer squash and onions before heading to our next stop today.
Leaf Lettuce & Garlic Braids
Several farmers had lettuce and there were some garlic scapes as well as garlic braids for sale.
Oak Spring Farm - Cukes, Garlic, Rhubarb, Peas, & Raspberries!
Don't forget the cut flowers - these lilies had such saturated color.  Wow!
