Visit To VanPelt's Farm Market

VanPelt's Farm Market
LFLF made a trip into Ohio yesterday and we made a stop at VanPelt's Farm Market on the way home. This is a busy market and there were a couple of folks who were picking up bushel quantities of tomatoes, beans, & peppers to do their home canning.
Van Pelt's Egg Noodles
The market is stocked with local meats, cheeses, noodles, baked goods, eggs, milk, etc! We got a bag of granola & 2 different cheeses. Then it was on to the sweet corn, a melon, and some peaches.
The apples are starting to come in too with several varieties available.  Ginger Gold is a favorite of ours.

I have to admit, I've never seen the apple variety Zeststar before ... have you?

VanPelt's Today

VanPelt's Farm Market
We made a trip out to Lisbon, Ohio today and zipped over to VanPelt's Farm Market on the return home.  The one "must have" item on the LFLF list today was garlic, and look what was on the sign!   They also had a couple of specialty items that you don't usually see at local markets around here.
The first one was okra .... and then nearby, they also had a bag of shelled lima beans.

Another rarely seen item ... ground cherries.  About the only time we see ground cherries are as entries at the county fairs!
VanPelt's Farm Market - Yellow Ground Cherries & Other Fruits!
There were tomatoes by the bushel for canning out front and these cherry & grape tomatoes too.
VanPelt's Farm Market - Potatoes, Tomatoes, & Sweet Potatoes
LFLF bought sweet corn, nectarines, baked granola cereal, oatmeal raisin cookies, and garlic, of course!   Can't even list the variety of what we didn't buy ... :)
Local honey rounds out the pictures for today.

This farm market is well worth making a stop if you're nearby.  They also have refrigerated cases of local Amish country meats, cheeses, milk, eggs, butter, as well as a full line of baked goods!

VanPelt's Farm Market

The LFLF Selection!
LFLF was out in Ohio on Saturday, so we had a chance to stop at VanPelt's Farm Market on Route 14 between the Columbiana area & Salem, Ohio.  It was around 11AM & the market was packed with only a half dozen parking spaces open.  We were looking for home grown sweet corn & they had it!  Blueberries, peaches, & tomatoes rounded out our produce haul.  We also picked up "Grandma's Maple Walnut Granola" from their bakery and some egg noodles from "The Noodle Kitchen", another local shop.
This is the kind of market where you can go to get produce for canning.  We saw a bunch of pickling cucumbers and a large box (half bushel?) of wax beans brought out for customers who had ordered ahead.  Bunches of dill, garlic cloves, & other herbs were also available.

You won't be disappointed if you venture out to this market - just don't do it as a Sunday drive - no Sunday sales!  Besides baked goods and a line of canned sauces & dressings, they also have home-made fudge and a cooler of eggs, Amish meats, cheeses, & butter from the Walnut Creek area.
Another tip if you head out that way from Pennsylvania - you will pass Catalpa Grove Farm - famous for their "pick your own" business.  They were crowded too as we passed by!

Ohio Farm Market

LFLF made a trip into Ohio today and took the opportunity to stop at VanPelt's Farm Market on the return trip.  This market is full of goodies!   The vegetable & herb selection was really nice.  They still have sweet corn and tons of watermelons and cantalopes.  The lady in front of us in line bought 4 bushels of canning tomatoes & loaded them into her truck.
There were at least 10 varieties of apples for sale, but not Winesap today ..... "They're not ripe yet" we heard the owner tell one customer who inquired.
The market carries eggs, cheeses, meats, bacon, milk etc, from local farms and from the Ohio Amish country in the counties to the west of the market.
VanPelts has a line of baked goods and there is a full selection of jams & jellies available.

Our primary objective today was sweet peppers for stuffing and LFLF was not disappointed!  The peppers were just perfect ..... a big bag of them came home with us.

Just lots of veggies and at this time of year, the gourds, pumpkins, mums, and winter squashes were also plentiful!
